5 Super-Easy Tips to Get – and Stay – Organized This Year

read on:

Tame the clutter and get your home in order for 2017 with these surprisingly easy-to-implement, bite-sized tips.

Let’s face it – we all have stuff. But instead of letting it take over, we’ve rounded up an easy-to-implement list of tips to help you bring simplicity and organization into your home to start off 2017 with ease. We know New Year’s resolutions rarely stick, but these snappy (and practically fail-safe) suggestions are a great way to help you get – and stay – organized this year.

Cut Out the Clutter

A huge trend in 2016 (thanks in part to Marie Kondo and her life-changing magic of tidying up, and minimalist-living advocates like Graham Hill), decluttering truly is the first step to finding house happiness. Why not try the 1-for-3 rule? When one new item comes into the house, three others have to go. By clearing out, selling or donating anything you don’t regularly use, love, or wear, you make more room for the stuff that really matters.

Divide, label, organize…and conquer!

Now that you’ve decluttered, it’s time to release your inner perfectionist. A good foundation for storage is a must – check out Tylko’s adaptable shelves. They’ll fit anywhere you need a little extra (and stylish) storage. Then, with handy organizational assistants such as boxes, bins and drawers, keeping everything trim and tidy – and accessible – becomes a pleasure.

Team Effort

If you feel overwhelmed by the task of purging and organizing, why not invite a few friends over and make it an event? They’re great for motivational support and objective advice when it comes to deciding what to keep or throw out. Get a bottle of champagne and toast each toss. Family members can all pitch in, too. Many hands make light work!

Let’s Be Realistic

Take it in little steps – a few small, achievable goals are much more approachable than one massive, looming task ahead. Try organizing for 10 or 20 minutes a day. Keep it light! The point is to make your home and life feel and look better – not to be filled with dread at the momentous task of trying to sort out the entire house in one weekend.

Treat Yourself!

Finally, allow yourself a reward! They’re a great motivator, and who doesn’t love getting a well-deserved treat? Whether a small “thank you” to yourself, or a bigger “way to go!” gift, you’ve earned it. Why not consider one of the year’s new interior trends to really spruce up your new, organized – and happy – home? (And a treat is the perfect way to keep yourself in check with that 1-for-3 rule!).
